New Members Information and How to Join.

About the Club:

We are a friendly, supportive and active kayaking club, which has grown steadily since 2002 and we now have about 70 youth and adult members. The club aims to make everyone’s experience of kayaking/canoeing a safe and enjoyable one. Whether you are brand new to the sport and looking to learn new skills, an experienced paddler wanting to improve your existing paddling skills or just looking for a group of people to paddle with, we have qualified coaches and experienced paddlers who can help you achieve this, with good company thrown in for free. We try hard to keep the range of paddling activities varied to ensure there is something to suit everyone.

Here in Pembrokeshire we are lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful variety of paddling opportunities, with some of the best sea kayaking in the UK, great surf, white water a little further inland and placid water at various river and estuary locations. We take advantage of this throughout the year by organising regular sessions for sea kayaking, surfing, open canoeing, river running as well as some socials which are listed on the home page for members. The club has a full range of equipment to support members with all these aspects of the sport.

During the winter the club runs swimming pool sessions to teach “wet” kayaking skills, safety, and rolling. We also have an active youth section which is currently aimed at secondary school age participants.

All trips are approved by experience qualified leaders. We have a number of qualified coaches/leaders who make trips enjoyable and instructive for novices, allow more experienced paddlers to polish their skills, and everyone have fun and gain recognised qualifications if they wish. The club also has a very successful coach and leader development program and we are always keen to expand the range and depth of the activities we run.

We usually run beginners courses generally starting in March, running for 5 weeks in the swimming pool before venturing out onto open water. We welcome new members throughout the year; see below for how to join.

We take our responsibilities to new members and each other seriously and you will find all the club policies and links to Canoe Wales guidance on this website.

We hope you have a great time with the club and look forward to seeing you on the water very soon.

Happy Paddling!
